Sumer + Keith’s mountainside engagement session was one for the books. We fought road closures and the two locations we picked ended up not working out, but we made the best of it and still got some amazing shots alongside the Blue Ridge Parkway in Blowing Rock, North Carolina – a little quaint town in Boone.
As soon as I got out of the car, Sumer said “one of us is not thrilled,” and she looked over at Keith. Y’all, if I had a dollar for every time a bride told me that – I would be rich. It’s pretty standard for grooms to dread photo shoots. But, Keith smiled through it and I think he ended up having a little fun – despite every issue we ran into… from the road closures, to lost cell phone service, to wardrobe malfunctions.
We originally planned to shoot at Moses Cone Manor – which I’ve shot at before. But since there was apparently some icy parts along the parkway, the road was closed. So Sumer found this little overlook and we made the best of it! She braved this mountainside in her heels like a *boss*. They changed into something a little more casual and then we ran across the road to another overlook.
This is where the session gets… interesting. After we left the overlooks, our plan was to head to Rough Ridge. If you’re familiar with Western, NC, you probably know that this is a super popular spot for engagement sessions. It’s one of the prettiest views in Boone. But of course – another road closure got in our way. And on top of that, we both lost cell phone service and we weren’t following each other.. so we were pretty much chasing each other around the parkway. Looking back, it’s kind of funny – but it was stressful trying to race the sunlight! Thankfully, the photos were still beautiful and these clients are some of the sweetest I’ve ever had – so everything turned out to be more than okay! <3
I can’t wait to shoot Keith and Sumer’s wedding next September, which will also be in the mountains! They booked pretty early in advance but if you’re also a September bride, it’s not too late to reach out about me photographing your wedding! Head to my contact form or shoot me an email at cailynwhitmanphoto@gmail.com and let’s chat about your big day.
